
Lately I have project to research about Zimbra for Email Server. But OS that Zimbra support just Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and Ubuntu Server only. If we consider about cost so we decide to use Ubuntu Server
We are many known about Ubuntu Desktop that is the very popular Linux for end user. But also there is version that specific for server too. This how to step-by-step will focus on Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx) 64-bit that Zimbra supported. You can download ISO from here.
When we boot from CD. Choose English as Language
Then choosing Install Ubuntu Server to start installation
Then we will choosing English as installation language
Choose United States as our area
We choose No not to detect keyboard layout
Choose USA as our keyboard
Choose USA as our keyboard layout too
Then installation will load driver and check about network settings. If installation couldn't find DHCP it will ask for IP Address, Subnet Mask, Gateway and DNS. But if installation found DHCP it will automatically config it.
Put the FQDN (Full Quality Domain Name) eg. ubuntu.wingfoss.com
Installation will detect about our physical location. Choose Yes if it is correct.
This will setting about Harddisk Partition. I choose Guided - use entire disk that installation will use whole drive for Linux partition
Choose harddisk to install. Install this sample will have only one harddisk. You just press Enter to choose it
Installation will confirm about partition harddisk. If OK then choose Yes.
Let's wait for the partition harddisk and install some component.
Installation will let us create admin user. First will be Full Name
Then Username
Enter password and confirm password
Choose No as we don't want to encrypt Home Directory
This will setting Proxy. We just press Enter not to set it.
If we can connect to the internet. Installation will be update software. Please wait for a while.
Installation will ask for if we want to automatic update or not. I always choose No automatic updates because I want to do all by myself.
This will choose Software that we want to install now. I always install by myself later. Just press tab to select Continue then press Enter
Wait for install some software
Installation will ask us to install GRUB boot loader. Just say Yes
Last step just choose Continue to reboot
Then after finishing reboot. We can login with the username and password that we put.
